how do I activate the headphone 3.5 jack? It doesn't show as an "output" and the only sound comes from the internal speakers on my HP 15.6 laptop.

Hi Dave, it sounds like your laptop isn’t detecting the headphone jack. What you can do, first, Check Device Manager, Make sure the audio driver is installed and up to date.

Right-click the sound icon then Open Sound settings then Check if the headphone jack appears under Output devices.

Also, try plugging in the headphones first, then restart the laptop.

Then Run the Windows Troubleshooter under Settings then System then Sound.

If none of these work, it might be a hardware issue or a driver conflict.

Also, when you plug in the headphones, do you hear a “connected” sound or see any notification that a new device was detected?

Let me know how it goes.

My input hole is really tight. I had to hold the right side of the HP 15.6 as I pushed in with a little muscle from the left until I felt "SNAP" or "CLICK" into the jack hole !! Plug in is tight. And it takes attention to remove the headphone cord, too. Simple fix. I wish someone would have said "insert the headphones male cord end into the computer with a little zest !!"
