Easy Anti-Cheat Untrusted System File -- 2025 Windows 11

When I try to launch Dead by Daylight, installed via Steam launcher, the game shuts down when Easy Anti-Cheat tries to load after ~5 seconds and I get an Untrusted System File notification. This is the message:

Untrusted system file (\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolume3\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.AutoSuperResolution_1.0.1.0_a

I've tried for hours to get it to work. I've deleted the Easy Anti Cheat folder, verified file integrity from Steam, restarted, tried amending it via Program Files (x86), I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game from Steam too, restarted, I've reinstalled my C++ and checked my Windows is up to date as well as my graphics drivers, restarted, restarted. I have tried literally everything on God's green earth and it won't let me through. I've also tried running the setup as an administrator; a window pops up for 0.1 seconds (I can't catch what it's called) and then disappears. Nothing happens. Is this normal? Please help me.

Notes:

  • This is a brand new laptop (HP OmniBook Snapdragon X Elite Copilot+ PC) bought literally on the day I am making this post
  • I live in and am making this post from New Zealand

If anyone could reach out it would be awesome.

Jay, I see the exact file EAC is complaining about is Microsoft.AutoSuperResolution inside WindowsApps. On Copilot+ PCs, AutoSR can hook into games, and some EAC titles treat that hook as untrusted. Turn Auto Super Resolution off just for the game.

Close Steam completely. Open Settings with Win+I. Go to System > Display > Graphics. In Custom options for applications, find Dead by Daylight. If it is not listed, use Browse and add the game's exe from your Steam folder. Open its options and set Automatic super resolution to Off, then save.

Launch the game again. If that does not clear the pop-up, tell me what changed and we will move to the next step.
