How long are the InDesign file names, if you extract the files directly into the root of your C drive to shorten the file path length, are you then able to use/rename the files from there.

I am unzipping files provided from an apple user and the filenames are very long. The files are Adobe InDesign (.idml and .indd) and I would like to know if there is a way that I can manually shorten the file names prior to unzipping in order to get the files. I need these file to be extracted to use and I don't really care what the filename is, but without shortening it, I cannot "GET" the file extracted. Help!

2025-10-29T13:57:18.0866667+00:00 I tried extracting the zip to my desktop, and that seemed to do it. I guess it wasn't the filename itself, rather, the deep location of the folder where I was trying to extract it to! Thanks for your help.

2026-04-28T11:46:07.9066667+00:00 Yes, thank you, this is the work-around I ended up using and it worked. Not ideal, I wish that One Drive backup could accommodate longer filenames/paths but we do what we have to occasionally to get by! Thanks for your suggestion.
