Something went wrong while setting up your account.

I have contacted my administrator and was told that it's to do with Outlook settings and can't help me.

    Hi Joubert Gert

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum

I am sorry to hear that you are facing the issue when set up your account.

To better assist, may I clarify a few details:

1.Are you trying to set up your account on Outlook Desktop app or Outlook for web version?

2.Did you add the account automatically (just enter email/password)? Or manual setup > Exchange / Microsoft 365 / POP/IMAP?

3.Does the error occur during sign-in or after credentials are accepted?

4.Can you sign into Outlook on the web?

5.Are there any other people in your organization facing the same issue?

6.What exactly your IT admin response when you reached out to them?

In the meantime, please confirm with your IT admin one more time:

    1.Verify User & License

-Confirm the user exists in Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

-Ensure Exchange Online license is assigned and active.

-Check mailbox type (User Mailbox, not Shared/Resource).

2.Confirm that DNS records are correctly configured

The initial response may not fully address your needs, but it will help me better understand your situation and try to find the root causes. Thank you for your patience while we work through it
