Do not get rid of Publisher!

Question

It's insane the amount of work Microsoft is going to cause people who have been using Publisher for years. Microsoft needs to make a conversion to Designer or some other way for all of us users to convert our files into a graphic friendly program. People working and use this program do not have the time to recreate everything we have done. We are using Publisher because Word can not do what Publisher can. Microsoft...Leave it alone if you don't have a solution! Does anyone out there have a solution?

I, too, am devastated by the axing of Publisher. I'm sorry to say that moving to Word isn't an option for the amount of text manipulation and picture-placing capabilities I have with Publisher. I have around 20 years worth of documents stored which have been created using Publisher, and many of them are re-used and updated when necessary. I've tried doing the same in Word and it frustrates me to screaming point. Word is fine for straight text documents, but not for newsletters and 24 page journals that I produce. Even if you don't support it in future (mad decision!), please, please, I beg of you allow us access to our stored Publisher files.

Please don't get rid of Publisher!! Teachers all over the world use publisher to make fliers, reports, banners, etc, for school. I have 10 years of work, and now I have to convert it into a different format. That will be time consuming. Word is rubbish compared to what Publisher can do. Please reconsider, know your subscribers.

Word and Designer are garbage compared to what we can do and use in Publisher! Don't get rid of it. So many users are going to be unhappy. Many years of work wasted. Saving a pdf version isn't going to help us with all of the graphics we are able to save around our documents in Publisher. If you get rid of it, I am getting rid of Microsoft Office and I hope everyone else does too!

We all need Publisher to remain our go to software. You will be destroying our businesses that depend on Publisher. If MS follows through with total elimination, then you can expect lawsuits from those of us that depend on this software.

At the very least you need to integrate ALL functionality into Word, Designer, or whatever cloud based BS you come up with!!!

I have been using Publisher for years and would be happy to use Word instead. Since my publications don't contain much more than text boxes and pictures, you should think that Word can easily handle this. But unfortunately I haven't found any acceptable conversion tool so far.

Microsoft's own converters are pretty useless. Direct save to DOCX mainly covers the text. The workaround via PDF that MS suggests, didn't work either. Landscape A4 publication was opened in portrait layout, which of course ruined the layout. Embarassing enough that MS has to suggest a workaround via third-party to convert between their own formats.

The online conversion tools aren't acceptable either. The ones I tried produce files requiring so much rework that you may rather rebuild it completely. For example large textboxes are split up into several small ones.

Right now it looks like I'm going to rebuild the Pub in Word from scratch for future use. History can be covered with PDF luckily.

This is extremely unsatisfactory. I would have expected more from Microsoft as one of the largest global players.
