I am always getting an error telling me there are too many files in a folder "Brian's folders\Downloads\BBACKUPS"

That folder contained backups of a forum I used to run but no longer do so.

That folder has been deleted for some months now.

TIA!

    Hi Brian,

Thank you for sharing your question. I understand that you are having issues seeing that OneDrive has too many files’ errors for a folder you deleted ages ago. I am here to help.

Based on my knowledge this can happen if OneDrive hasn't caught up with the fact that you deleted the folder. It might still be trying to sync it or has it stuck in its system somewhere.

Here's a fix you can try.

First, restart OneDrive – this makes it rebuild its system and forget about the old folder. Press Windows + R to open the Run little box.

    Write this in the box.

    %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

    Then press Enter.

If you see a message that says Windows can't find... try one of these instead:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

    Or C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

Once it restarts, OneDrive will begin syncing again. If it doesn't restart by itself, just open it from the Start menu.

Also, take a look at your OneDrive Trash online. Sometimes deleted folders hang out there, messing things up. Go to OneDrive's website, hit Recycle Bin, and empty it if you need to.

May I also ask did you remove the folder from your computer or straight from OneDrive online? Also, is this OneDrive for your own stuff, or is it through work or school?

I hope this answer is helpful, if you have any questions, feel free to reply.

    Best Regards,

    Noel

Tried all those as well as 4 letter words!

I wound up "un-linking" my account and logging back in. So far, so good. I'd have thought a reset would have done the exact same thing.

I did in fact empty my recycle bin in one drive and there was nothing from the folder with the issue in there. Like it didn't actually get deleted at all. I deleted - and always do - from my local drive and onedrive always deletes them from online.

I'm anal about a clean desktop, and as soon as I delete something I empty the trash. Of course I don't sync my trash, but... Here's where it got weird.

When onedrive synchronized again, the folder came back! I mean, where did they come from? Where COULD they have come from? The folder and its contents were back on my local drive again!? I waited until it was done uploading/syncing and deleted the folder again, and I no longer see it locally or online.

As for school, work or personal, I graduated high school in 1961. I retired in 2008. AND I AINT GOING BACK!

But thanks VERY much, and I hope this helps anyone with the same issue.
