I've had MS apps on my Mac for years, now they crach all the time. Only once have I had a crash report, the rest of the time the apps just close.

Here's the first part or the crash report:

    Hi @Gray

Thank you so much for contacting Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Based on your description, I understand your Microsoft 365 apps (like Excel) are crashing frequently on your Mac, often just closing without a report.

The EXC_CRASH (SIGHUP) error, and the fact that the merp (Microsoft Error Reporting) module itself is mentioned as the crashed module, is definitely frustrating. Let's try a few standard troubleshooting steps to see if we can narrow down the cause.

Based on my research, here are a few things to try in order:

    1. Unlink OneDrive: Sometimes, issues with OneDrive sync can affect the Office apps. Let's try unlinking and relinking it.
    2. Start in Safe Mode: This will start your Mac with a minimal set of drivers and services. It helps rule out if other background software is causing the conflict. -Reference: Start up your Mac in safe mode Note: Microsoft is providing this information as a convenience to you. 3. Uninstall and Reinstall: If the steps above don't work, a clean reinstallation might be necessary. First, completely uninstall the Office suite. Then, go to www.office.com, sign in, and download a fresh installer from your account portal.

I'm running the exact same application version on my Mac and haven't experienced these crashes. This makes me think it might be a conflict with another program or a corrupted file on your system. To help narrow this down, could you tell me:

    • When did these crashes first start?
    • Did you install any new software (especially fonts, system utilities, or other add-ins) right around the time the crashes began?

Let me know if any of those steps help.
