Activating PowerBi student account license

Question

I have signed up with my student acount and I wanted to upload a csv file in Power Bi, but it didn't allow me and said I don't have license. I activated my license from my university portal. What is the problem and how should I fix it ?

1. Are you signing in with a work or school account managed by your organization, or a personal Microsoft account (hotmail.com, live.com)? 
2. Are you attempting to upload the CSV file using Power BI Desktop (the installed application) or the Power BI Service (the web portal at app.powerbi.com)? 
3. When you navigate to Profile > View Account > Subscriptions in Power BI Service, does your account display Power BI (Free) or Power BI Pro? 
4. Has your university confirmed that your student license includes Power BI Pro, or does it only cover standard Microsoft 365 applications? 
5. At what point does the error occur? Is it during the initial import of the CSV file, or when you attempt to publish or share the report online? 

 

Possible causes for your issue could be: 

• Student accounts typically default to Power BI Free, which allows personal report creation but does not support publishing or collaboration features. 
• Uploading a CSV file in Power BI Desktop should work without any license upgrade, whereas publishing to the cloud or sharing reports requires Power BI Pro.
