    Dear @Gabriel Furlong

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how inconvenient it must be to see multiple tasks or steps added when you click the + Add task button in Microsoft To Do.

In my testing, clicking the + Add task button in Microsoft To Do creates only one task per click. When multiple tasks or steps appear, this is typically due to browser or app cache, repeated keyboard or mouse input, or synchronization of conflicts across devices.

To help me better understand the situation and assist you effectively, could you please share a few details such as:

1/ Is your account a personal account (such as @gmail.com, @outlook.com, @hotmail.com) or a work or school account managed by your organization?

2/ Which browser are you currently using (Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, etc.)?

3/ Have you updated your operating system and browser to the latest versions?

This will help us better understand the context and provide more targeted support. Any additional information will help us better understand and support you.

In the meantime, you can refer to some workarounds to verify the issue:

Ensure your operating system and browser are up to date for better performance and stability.

Option 1: Sign out and sign back in

Please sign out of your account and sign back in to refresh your session.

Option 2: Clear cache browser and open via private window

    • For Google Chrome:

Go to Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data.

Select All time, check both Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, then click Clear data.

    • For Microsoft Edge:

Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Delete browsing data.

Select All time, check both Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, then click Clear now to proceed.

After clearing the cache, please return to your To Do list and check if everything looks correct.

Next, try opening a private or incognito window:

    • For Google Chrome:

Click on the vertical three-dot menu and select New Incognito Window.

    • For Microsoft Edge

Click the horizontal three-dot menu and choose New InPrivate Window.

Then please sign in to your account via office.com, go to the Apps section, select To Do, and verify if the behavior persists.

If the Add task button works normally in this window, please disable any browser extensions that might interfere with input.

Option 3: Try different browser or device

If the issue continues, test on another browser or device to confirm if it’s environment specific.
