My birthday and country are incorrect and I cannot edit them because my account thinks I am a child but I am an adult.

Hello. I have noticed that my Microsoft Account has my incorrect birthday and country. I cannot edit it because the age it is set at is 13, but I'm over 18. I have tried to make a family account with another email, but I still cannot edit my details. I think the only choice left to do is to prove my age with ID. Is that correct? Can I request an age verification or correction?

I have already had a chat with the Microsoft Help Line and after all the normal steps used to edit a profile, they couldn't fix it and said "With the case provided, our Microsoft Family Safety Specialist can definitely assist you with this since they are fully equipped and well-trained to resolve this kind of issue."

Please help me to fix my information so I can control my subscriptions to Office365 etc. I hope by proving my ID we can fix it and I can continue to purchase products from you.

Regards,

Craig S

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Only the Organizer of your Family group can edit the Child's personal info.

May I please know if you've already added the Child account to the family group? Are you unable to manage consent from an organizer (Adult) account?

This is what worked for other users:

    • Create a new Adult account (Dummy one) or use another adult account of yours.
    • Invite the Child account to the family safety group - https://account.microsoft.com/family/home
    • You should see the child account in your adult account family group, where you can manage consent for them and edit the personal info.

    child account (1) (1)

On the next screen, you've these options to edit the D.O.B for the child account.

    User's image

If you're having issues, you can remove the Child account from that group and use another account of yours and see if you can edit the child's personal info from that account.

If Microsoft Support couldn’t assist you, I’m afraid no one here will be able to either. This is a user-to-user community forum, where users like you help each other . we don’t have access to your account or any personal information.

If you’re unable to edit the date of birth even with organizer permissions, it’s likely a permissions-related issue.

    1. Open an incognito tab on your web browser.
    2. Please go to https://account.microsoft.com/family/home
    3. Sign in with your adult account, and share a screenshot of the resulting page so we can better understand the situation.

Make sure to hide all of your personal information, like the one I attached above.

I did mention to Microsoft that the account I want to change is currently set to Family Organizer.

You should be a member of the family group. (Not organizer)

(If you're already in a family group, click Remove from family group).

    Try this-

Open an incognito tab (let's say 1) on any web browser.

Sign in with your Adult account here-

    https://account.microsoft.com/family/home

    Click "Add a Family Member".

    member (1)

Select Member > Then click Next.

Enter the Child's email account address and click Next.

Open another incognito tab (let's say 2) and sign in with your child's account here to accept the invitation.

    https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/---

Once accepted, go back to the first incognito tab (1) we opened and refresh the page.

You should be able to manage your child's consent from the adult account.

    Craig S

Could you please provide the screenshot here?

sign in with your organizer (ADULT) account here (Not the child account)

    https://account.microsoft.com/family/home

Criag,According to the screenshot you attached, you should be able to edit the date of birth (D.O.B.) in the child's profile after selecting Manage consent.

If you are unable to do so, there might be an issue with your account itself. Since Microsoft Support redirected you here and we have already tried all available methods, it is likely a temporary problem preventing changes to the D.O.B. in your account. In this case, you can wait a few days and try again, or try the same steps using a different adult account to see if that helps.

If the issue continues, you may need to create a new account. However, please note that you will not be able to use the same username again.
