Good evening, everyone I've started to encounter random restarts only when I am updating/downloading applications from the steam launcher. I have the crash report analyzed ready for anyone to look through to help point me in the right direction. Thank you for any help in advance on this matter

    Shemar,

Since you're experiencing the same problem even in a clean boot environment, this means the issue isn't caused by interference from any third-party service or app. This indicates that corrupted system files or drivers may be the root cause, and performing a clean installation would be the best option to resolve the issue.

See Windows 11 Clean Installation process article for reference:

If your PC is restarting randomly during updates or downloads from the Steam launcher, it could be related to several factors, including hardware issues, driver problems, or system corruption. Here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check Event Viewer: Look for Event IDs 41, 1001, and 6008 in the Event Viewer. These can provide insights into the cause of the unexpected reboots. Event ID 41 indicates that the system rebooted without cleanly shutting down, which could be due to a crash or power loss.
    2. Analyze Crash Reports: If you have crash reports, check for any bug check codes or error messages that could indicate the source of the problem. Bug checks often point to faulty drivers or hardware.
    3. Update Drivers: Ensure that all your device drivers, especially for graphics and network devices, are up to date. Outdated drivers can cause system instability during resource-intensive tasks like downloads.
    4. Run Hardware Diagnostics: Use the hardware diagnostics tools provided by your system manufacturer to check for any hardware issues, particularly with RAM or hard drives.
    5. Check for Compatibility: Make sure that your hardware is compatible with the version of Windows you are using. Sometimes, new updates or applications may require more resources than your system can provide.
    6. Run Virus Scans: Malware can also cause unexpected behavior, including random restarts. Run a full virus scan to rule out infections.
    7. Memory Diagnostics: Run the Windows Memory Diagnostics tool to check for memory errors, which can lead to system crashes.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the cause of the random restarts and take appropriate action to resolve the issue.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Please check if your PC is creating any minidump files. I will look at them to find out what might be causing the crashes.

    1. Open Windows File Explorer.
    2. Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump.
    3. Copy any minidump files onto your Desktop, then zip them up.
    4. Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.), then choose to share it and get a share link.
    5. Then post the link here to the zip file so we can take a look for you.

    Hi,

Your most recent minidump files indicate that the Intel chipset device driver is causing the system crashes.

To resolve this issue, visit the support page for your PC or the motherboard manufacturer's website. From there, download and install the recommended chipset drivers for your device.

Let me know how it goes.

    Thank you for your reply.

Please try starting your PC in a clean boot environment, and try to download the updates again. See if it works there
