Single Vs Multiple Storage Accounts for Logging Purposes

Hi Community

Are there any official guidelines from Microsoft around the use of single Vs multiple Storage Accounts for logging purposes (Diagnostics Logs for various resources). What are some of the factors to consider (and pros / cons) when planning Storage Account(s) to store diagnostics logs?

I know a single storage account has an upper limit of 5 PiB. However, I'm sure there's more beyond that as a consideration when deciding if we want to centralize all the logs to one SA Vs keep separate - and if we keep them separate what are some of the considerations to decide what logs (from what resources) to club-in same SA.

    Hi @Taranjeet Malik ,

Some of the factors to consider when planning Storage Account(s) to store diagnostics logs are:

    1. Is easier control of accessing the stored data a priority? If yes then go for single storage account.
    2. If you are archiving the Activity log and Resource logs together, you may choose to use the same storage account to keep all monitoring data in a central location.
    3. Yes, estimation and calculation around maximum storage account capacity (5 PiB) Vs the amount of data that you intend to store is required. If its touching the maximum capacity then you obviously would have to go for multiple storage accounts.

This official Azure document is the source for few of the above points. If further detailed clarification is required with pros and cons around the use of single Vs multiple Storage Accounts for logging purposes (i.e., using Diagnostics Logs for various resources) then in general as shown in below screenshot we can click on "This page" option under Feedback section of the same official Azure document so that document is updated as required if appropriate. For this instance I have created this GitHub document enhancement feedback and so I would recommend you to check if for future updates on the document enhancement.
