It sounds like you are experiencing issues with a potentially damaged document on your current laptop, while being able to access it from another device. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check for Document Damage: Since you can access the document from another laptop, the issue may be related to your current device. You can follow these steps to determine if the document is damaged:
      • Try opening other Word documents on your current laptop to see if the problem persists across multiple files.
      • If other documents open correctly, the issue may be specific to that document.
    2. Repair the Document: If the document is indeed damaged, you can attempt to repair it by:
      • Opening Word and selecting File > Open.
      • Choosing the damaged document and clicking on the dropdown arrow next to the Open button, then selecting Open and Repair.
    3. Save a Copy: If you can access the document on another laptop, consider saving it as a new file there and then transferring it back to your original device. This can sometimes resolve issues related to file corruption.
    4. File Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to access the document on your current device. Sometimes security settings can prevent access to files.
    5. Antivirus Settings: Check if your antivirus software is blocking access to the file. Some antivirus programs may restrict access to potentially unsafe files.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to further investigate software issues on your current laptop or consider reaching out to IT support for assistance.

    Hi Truzly India,

As far as I know, this typically points to a local problem with the application handling the file on your primary laptop, rather than the file itself being permanently corrupted. The most common culprit is a corrupted temporary data cache for the application (like Word or Excel), which can prevent files from opening correctly on one specific machine.

First, you can try copying the affected file to your desktop and opening it from there. Sometimes, files stored in synced folders (like OneDrive or SharePoint) can temporarily lose local access permissions. If that doesn’t work, open any other Office file to check if the same issue occurs.

If it does, I recommend repairing your Office installation: go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Microsoft 365/Office > Change > Quick Repair (and if that fails, try Online Repair). Also, ensure Windows and Office are both fully updated.

Lastly, clear temporary Office cache files from %localappdata%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\OfficeFileCache and restart your device before trying again.

If these steps help you restore access to your documents, please click “Accept Answer” so others can benefit from this solution too 😊.

    Jason
