How did you upgrade, from the Store app?

Try this:

You can go to Settings > System > Activation > Change product key

Disconnect internet, and disable any third party antivirus, key in the generic key instead: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

That should get you to Pro. Once restarted, you can connect back to the internet, sign into your Microsoft account. See if it is activated.

If that still doesn't work, do a repair install first, then try to upgrade again.

To perform a repair installation of Windows 11 using the Windows Media Creation Tool:

The following steps should be done on a working Windows computer:

Download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website. https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 click on the "download now" button under "Create Windows 11 Installation Media"

Run the tool and select "Create installation media for another PC."

Choose "USB flash drive" as the media to use for the installation and select "Next."

Connect a USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of free space to your computer.

Select the USB flash drive you want to use, and then select "Next."

The tool will then download the required files and create the installation media.

Now these steps will be done on your problematic computer:

Go to the USB drive via File Explorer, locate and run the Setup.exe file. Ideally, you should disconnect all USB and Bluetooth devices other than mouse and keyboard. Disable any 3rd party antivirus program. Disconnect the internet.

Once you run the Setup.exe file, choose the Install option, and the choose the option that keeps your files and apps.

If you don't mind, please be specific exactly which step hung up. And what was the behavior, error code, etc.

Also, where did you get your Pro license? From Microsoft, or Third party?

I know this is over a month later and I'm a different user, but I'm running into an identical error right now...

Purchased the Windows 11 Pro upgrade from the Microsoft Store using a basic Microsoft account (same one used to log into the computer - only user account, we reset the PC before this).

Try to install from the Microsoft Store -> gets to 10% then fails with Error Code 0xc004f050.

No product key in email (digital license, understood).

Tried disconnecting from the internet and entering the Product Key you mentioned above to activate it -> same error (still at 10%).

Windows 11 Home is active.

All Windows Updates are installed.

Windows Update Troubleshooter returns no results.

SFC /scannow returns no results.

DISM /CheckHealth returns no results.

DISM /ScanHealth & /RestoreHealth running but appearing to do nothing.

Computer is a LENOVO IdeaPad Slim 5 16IRL8 - 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1355U, 10C/12T - 16 GB RAM - 500 GB SSD.

Update... after the DISM /RestoreHealth hung and refused to finish, I re-tried the upgrade from the Microsoft Store and got error code 0x80070020 instead (didn't even show a percentage first).

Rebooted the computer and it says "Updates are underway" so we'll see when it boots back up if that actually ran the upgrade or not.

Jake Lind, I got the same error right now after buying on MS Store without receiving a key. Did you succeed in upgrading from W11 Home to W11 Pro? How did you achieve that? Thanks for any information you can provide.

i did all the steps and it finally worked! Hopefully windows will solve this problem, all in all, it took about 4 hrs upgrading from home to pro.

For me, my activation was 1 of my emails that I use for/with MS, then I installed Belarc Advisor which contain my activation license key, which I copy/paste into the spot in my computer that has windows 10 and then the 1 with Windows 11 - with NO PROBLEM

If you bought Pro upgrade from Store, you can use Pro edition generic key to manually change to Pro edition.

Then when you connect to Internet, the Pro edition should be activated automatically.

Tried it, got the same error. I bought the upgrade at the Microsoft Store. Have been going crazy trying to upgrade the computer as I need to take it on a trip, and it must have the Pro version. Have tried EVERY suggestion, including talking twice to chat (was hard to get someone!) Nothing they suggested works. The SLUI 4 phone thing does not work either. Finally I am taking it to a tech center after scrubbing it clean and asking them to put the s/w on it. Very very frustrating experience. I thought doing it via Microsoft would be easier, even though I paid nearly twice $199 for the upgrade, when I could have bought one from Amazon for $99.
So many people have this problem. Oh BTW, tried to get a refund as I am about to give up on this. Oh, and getting a refund too is a major ordeal. So far I have NOT been successful at that either.
