How do I recover outlook account of my kid?

I have created an account for my kid, as I'm the family manager. I have let my kid to set his own password and he forgot it. Authentication with the phone number (my phone number is linked to the kid's account) doesn't work for some reason and that led me with no option to recover the account. I have tried to recover it on password reset.microsoftonline with my email account (by providing as many information as I had from the lost account) with no success. This whole family safety app and outlook account linking with the windows account experience is so painful.

    Hi Nistor,

Microsoft Family Safety and child accounts are designed with strict privacy and security rules. When a child account is created:

It requires adult verification for recovery and major changes.

Password resets depend on the linked recovery options (phone, email).

If the linked phone number fails or the recovery form doesn’t provide enough matching details, Microsoft’s system will reject the request to protect the account.

This is why the process feels restrictive, it’s meant to prevent unauthorized access, but it can be painful when legitimate recovery fails.

    What you can do is:

    Check Recovery Options

Sign in at account.microsoft.com with your adult account.

Go to Family → Manage family members and confirm the child account is listed.

    Add or Update Security Info

If possible, add an alternate email or phone number to the child account from your adult account.

    Retry Account Recovery

    Use Microsoft Account Recovery Form.

Provide as much detail as possible (recent subjects, folders, contacts, billing info if applicable).

    Contact Microsoft Support

Go to Microsoft Support Contact Page.

Select Microsoft Account → Family Safety → Request a Call Back.

Explain that the child account is locked and recovery options are failing.

Let me know how it goes, Happy to help!
