Hi Mike Menkin,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!
I understand you're experiencing no sound on YouTube after deleting software you thought was unnecessary. If you uninstalled a sound-related driver or utility, your system may no longer know how to process audio. To better help you, I'd like to ask if everything is soundless, or only Youtube was having troubles? In the meantime, here's something you should check:
1 - System sound settings:
- Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooter > Run Audio
- If the issue persists, still in System section, navigate to Sounds instead
- Under Output, make sure the correct device is selected
- Scroll down and click Volume mixer > Turn your browser's volume is on
- Open Youtube, make sure the tab/site is not accidentally mute
2 - Reinstall Audio drivers
- Right-click Start logo > Device Manager > Expand Sound, video and game controllers
- Right-click your audio device > Uninstall device > Restart your PC
- If the driver doesn't automatically reinstall:
- Go to your PC/motherboard manufacturer’s website
- Manually download and install the latest audio driver
3 - Check Windows audio services
- Press Win + R to open Run dialog > type
services.msc> press Enter - Find "Windows Audio" > make sure Startup type is set to Automatic
- Right-click it, choose Start, or Restart if it's already Running
It'd be best if we can identify the software you deleted. Do you remember its logo or name? Let me know if the issue still persists after trying all the steps above and consider checking what I asked above.
