If the audio jack on your laptop is not functioning and the sound is still coming from the speakers when you plug in your earphones, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check Audio Settings: Ensure that the audio output is set to the headphone jack. You can do this by right-clicking the speaker icon in the taskbar, selecting "Playback devices," and then checking if your headphones are set as the default playback device.
    2. Inspect the Headphone Jack: Sometimes, debris or dust can obstruct the headphone jack. Make sure it is clean and free of any obstructions.
    3. Update Audio Drivers: Outdated or corrupted audio drivers can cause issues. Check for updates for your audio drivers through Device Manager.
    4. Test with Different Headphones: If possible, try using a different pair of headphones to rule out the possibility of a faulty headphone.
    5. Run the Audio Troubleshooter: Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can help diagnose and fix audio problems. You can access it by going to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Playing Audio.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with the audio jack itself.

When you plug in your headphones, do they appear under Sound settings >Output devices? If not, right-click the sound icon on the taskbar and select Sound settings. Under Output, check if your earphones appear in the list and select them manually.

Also, open the Control Panel, go to Sound > Playback tab, and make sure your headphones are not disabled. If they appear as disabled, right-click on them select Enable and set as the default playback device.
