Hi there,

Someone attempted to login to my Hotmail account and now the account has been locked.

I have tried using the recovery options I have in place but no success. I am being asked to enter recovery email which I entered and I getting the code but after entering a code I am being asked to verify using a phone. I provided the number but I am getting message saying this option is not working. So my question is how do I fix this issue?

To unlock your locked Hotmail account, you can follow these steps:

    1. Use the Recovery Options: Since you mentioned you have already tried the recovery options, ensure that you are entering the correct recovery email and that you have access to it. If you are receiving the code but facing issues with phone verification, proceed to the next steps.
    2. Check Phone Verification: If the phone number verification is not working, verify that the phone number you provided is correct and that it is capable of receiving SMS or calls. If you have multiple verification methods set up, try using a different method if available.
    3. Contact Support: If you continue to experience issues, you may need to reach out to Microsoft support for assistance. They can help you with account recovery and unlocking your account. You can find the appropriate contact at Support for Business Products.
    4. Self-Service Password Reset: If your organization allows it, you can also try using the self-service password reset option to regain access to your account. This may involve answering security questions or using other recovery methods.
    5. Wait and Retry: Sometimes, there may be temporary issues with the verification process. If possible, wait a few minutes and try the verification process again.

If you follow these steps and still cannot unlock your account, contacting Microsoft support is likely your best option for resolution.

    Hi,

I understand that your account has been locked because the system detected that someone is trying to access it using a different device and location. You also used the account recovery form several times without success.

To regain access, please visit the support article below, click the "Sign in" button, and follow the steps provided. Be sure to review the tips included in the article, as they can help improve your chances of successfully recovering your account.

Aside from the account recovery form, I also suggest that you try filling out the account reinstatement form designed for locked accounts: https://www.microsoft.com/concern/AccountReinstatement

Note: This is different from the account recovery form.

Microsoft Team will review the reason your account was locked. If they determine that you are the rightful owner, they will reinstate your account. Please note that they typically respond within 48 to 72 hours. Be sure to check your junk and spam folders for their response.
