Dear cwb cwb,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Community. I understand you are unable to receive the verification code when trying to add a recovery email or change your PIN, even though your email account works for other messages. Please kindly follow these steps to fix the issue :
1. Try a different PC
As a first troubleshooting step, I recommend trying to log in and verify your account using a different PC than the one initially used.
That being said, if you can verify your account on the other PC, it means that problem is on your end and we will fix it in the next steps.
2. Delete browser cache & cookies
- Click on the Customize and control Google Chrome button.
- Select History, then click on History again.
- Click on the Clear browsing data button.
- Select Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files, then select All time and click on Clear data.
3. Update Windows
- Press Windows + I to access Settings.
- Select the Windows updates tab and click Install all.
- If no updates are queued for installation, press the Check for updates button.
4. Check Email Settings
- Confirm the email address shown during verification is correct.
- Check your Junk or Spam folder for messages from @accountprotection.microsoft.com.
- Add @accountprotection.microsoft.com to your Safe Senders list in Outlook.
5. Verify Account Security Information
- Sign in at Microsoft Account Security.
- Ensure your email is listed as a valid security method.
- If not, add an alternate method such as a phone number or another email address.
6. Use Alternative Verification
If email codes fail, select SMS or phone call option if available.
7. Avoid Multiple Requests
Wait at least 5–10 minutes before requesting another code to prevent throttling.
8. Check Microsoft Service Health
Visit Microsoft Service Status to confirm Outlook and account services are operational.
9. Try a Different Network or VPN
If regional restrictions or ISP filtering are suspected, connect via VPN and retry.
10. Contact Microsoft Support
If none of the above works, please visit Troubleshooting verification code issues or request a callback via Contact Support
- Visit this website: Contact - Microsoft Support
- Type your problems in the search box there. ( For example, Contact support.)
- Now click on Get Help and select Contact Support below.
- Go to the Products & Services tab and choose the Outlook category
- On the Category tab, choose based on your actual problem
- Go to Confirm.
- Choose to chat with a support representative or request a call back.
Note: The support contact team only works at certain times, so if the last window shows that it's unavailable, try opening it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave a phone number. This way, they can call you and help you.
