I am having a dispute with my web developer who is the administrator of my microsoft 365 account. He has changed my email passwords and I can't gain access. I have tried to contact microsoft support but because I was not listed as a global administrator I can't seem to contact them. How do I get help to regain access to my email accounts?

To regain access to your email accounts in Microsoft 365, you can follow these steps:

    1. Contact Another Global Admin: If there are other global admins in your organization, reach out to them for assistance. They can help reset your password or grant you access.
    2. Contact Microsoft Support: If you are unable to reach another global admin, you can still contact Microsoft support. You may need to provide proof of your identity and ownership of the organization. You can submit a support request by going to the Microsoft 365 support page and selecting the option for account access issues.
    3. Documentation: Be prepared to verify your identity through official business documentation, domain ownership, or nonprofit registration data if applicable.
    4. IT Partner: If your Microsoft 365 tenant was created or is managed by a Microsoft partner, you can contact their support team for recovery assistance.

Following these steps should help you regain access to your email accounts.

    Hello @floatdistribution,

Thank you for posting your valuable question on Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how important it is to regain access to your Microsoft 365 account. Please note that Microsoft 365 work or school accounts are linked to an organization’s tenant, which is managed by global administrators. These administrators have full control over user accounts, passwords, and security settings. For security reasons, Microsoft Support cannot make changes directly unless you are listed as a global administrator.

Here are some steps you can consider:

If you purchased a license or own the domain

    Gather Proof of Ownership:

Prepare documentation that confirms you own the Microsoft 365 tenant and domain, such as:

    • Domain registration details
    • Billing information for the Microsoft 365 subscription
    • Business registration documents (if applicable)

    Contact Microsoft Support:

    • Even if you are not an admin, you can request assistance by providing the above documentation. Use the appropriate hotline for your region: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support
    • When calling, ignore the initial automated message and wait for the options. Typically, press "1" for business email users and "1" again for technical help.

If your subscription is through a partner or reseller

If your organization’s subscription was purchased via a partner, and the global administrator cannot open a service request for you, contact the reseller’s support team to raise a request on your behalf.

If you do not have proof of ownership

Try to locate a Microsoft 365 admin within your organization who can help revoke the restriction. Guidance is available here: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

Please understand that if the dispute cannot be resolved, Microsoft cannot override tenant admin control for security reasons. Your account belongs to the tenant, not Microsoft directly, so Microsoft cannot revoke access on your behalf.

Let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you for reaching out!
