Windows snipping tool sending to oneNote instead of saving to screenshots folder

Windows snipping tool has been sending anything I screenshot to my screenshots folder for the longest time, it's what I prefer. Last week it started doing something different. Now when I take a screenshot with the snipping tool it pulls up a prompt from oneNote (which I haven't used in years) asking me which notebook I would like to send it to, and no matter what I pick it never sends the screenshot to the screenshots folder. This is despite having the snipping tool setting on to automatically save screenshots. The best situation I could get is for it to save the screenshot to my clipboard, but it still won't save it in my files. This is extremely frustrating and I would appreciate any suggestions.image

Hi, and welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

Go to Windows Start > Settings > Apps > Installed Apps. Scroll down to Snipping Tool. Click the three dots to the right of Snipping Tool and select Advanced Options. Scroll down to Reset and click the Repair button. If that doesn't solve the issue, click the Reset button as well.

I hope that will solve the issue.

    Craig
