If Word keeps becoming unresponsive even after performing an online repair, you may want to consider the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Verify or Install the Latest Updates: Ensure that you have the latest updates for Office installed. Sometimes, issues can be resolved with newer updates that contain fixes.
    2. Check for Conflicting Add-ins: Disable any COM add-ins that might be causing the problem. You can do this by temporarily disabling them and checking if Word responds correctly.
    3. Disconnect Network Drives: If you are trying to open or save files from network drives, ensure that all network drives are connected and accessible. Disconnect any that are offline to avoid performance issues.
    4. Disable Hardware Acceleration: If you have an Intel graphics adapter, you might want to disable hardware acceleration in Word. This can be done through the Options dialog in Word under the Advanced settings.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to explore further options or contact Microsoft support for assistance.

Thanks for sharing the details, Catherine! Try starting Word in Safe Mode.

    • Press Windows + R, type winword /safe, and hit Enter.
    • If Word opens normally, the issue likely stems from add-ins or templates.

So disable add-ins and re-enable one by one until you find the culprit.

    • Go to File then Options then Add-ins.
    • At the bottom, set "Manage" to COM Add-ins and click Go.
    • Uncheck all add-ins and restart Word.
    • Re-enable them one by one to identify the culprit.

See if this helps. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly
