I have an old deleted hotmail address, <removed PII>@hotmail.com, keep popping up to sign in. My Microsoft account has been updated with <removed PII>******@outlook.com as a sign-in and subscription, and is in good standing.

Can you prevent the old obsolete microsoft email, <removed PII>@hotmail.com, prompting on screen, in Desktop computer and iPhone?

    Hi tsjhe2024,

Thank you for sharing your question. I understand why that's annoying, especially since you've already switched to Outlook. Basically, your devices are holding onto some old info even after you update your account. Let’s sort this together.

What happens is that Windows and iOS sometimes keep old sign-in stuff in places like Credential Manager or in the apps themselves. These old bits of info because those prompts even when the account is no longer in use.

To fix this in Windows, go to Settings > Accounts > Email & accounts and get rid of the old Hotmail account under Accounts used by other apps. Then, open Credential Manager (just search for it in Windows), click Windows Credentials, and delete anything related to that old Hotmail address. If you're still getting the prompt, check Access work or school in Settings and disconnect any old accounts there. Restart your computer afterward.

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts (or Passwords & Accounts) and delete any old Microsoft or Outlook accounts you see. Then, sign out of those old accounts in apps like Outlook, Edge, or Copilot, and select Remove from this device. If you use Microsoft Authenticator, remove any extra accounts there too. Lastly, try uninstalling and reinstalling the apps that are giving you trouble to wipe out any saved login info. If you're using iCloud Keychain, try turning it off and on again in Settings > iCloud > Passwords & Keychain. to refresh the stored information.

Can you check if the old Hotmail account is still listed under Accounts used by other apps on Windows or in Mail > Accounts on your iPhone? If it is, removing it should take care of the problem. If not, we might have to dig into the registry or clear your browser's autofill data. Let me know if that works.

I hope this answer is helpful, if you have any questions, feel free to reply.

    Best Regards

    Noel
