I was sent an Excel spreadsheet with imbedded images, but I am not able to see the images. My version of Excel is up to date. Is there a fix for this issue? I understand this may be a common problem.

Hi, I get how annoying it is when images just do not show. The root cause is usually Excel display settings or blocked external content rather than the file itself.

First, in file options advanced, make sure Show picture placeholders is off and under display set for objects to show all. Next, try disabling hardware graphics acceleration in file options advanced to rule out a graphics driver issue. open the file in excel safe mode by holding Ctrl while starting Excel to see if an add in is hiding objects. In Trust Center External Content, allow picture and data connections for this workbook. If it still fails, copy a sheet into a new workbook and test, or use File Account Update Options to repair or update Office.

quick checks for me Are the images on the same sheet and not behind cells or set to Hidden in Selection Pane Home Find and Select Selection Pane Are they actual pictures not linked objects or chart backgrounds Did the sender use a format like xlsb or xlsx and can they share one image separately to confirm it displays on your side What Excel build and Windows version are you on and does the file show images on another PC or in Excel for the web

If you are unable to see images embedded in an Excel spreadsheet, there are a few potential causes and solutions you can consider:

    1. Check for Hidden Sheets: Sometimes, sheets containing images may be hidden. You can check this by going to the View tab in Excel and selecting Unhide to see if any sheets are hidden.
    2. Minimize and Maximize the Window: Occasionally, minimizing and then maximizing the Excel window can refresh the display and reveal hidden images.
      • Click the minimize button in the top-right corner of the Excel window.
      • Then, right-click the Excel icon in the task tray and select your spreadsheet to maximize it again.
    3. Image Compression: If the images were saved with compression settings that reduce their quality, they might not appear as expected. You can check the image compression settings in Excel to ensure they are not set to compress images on save. This can be done by going to the Office Button, selecting Save As, then Tools, and finally Compress Pictures. Ensure that the option for automatic compression is unchecked.
    4. File Corruption: If the file was corrupted during download or transfer, it might not display images correctly. Try downloading the file again or asking the sender to resend it.
    5. Compatibility Issues: Ensure that the version of Excel you are using is compatible with the file format of the spreadsheet. Sometimes, older versions of Excel may not support certain features or formats used in newer versions.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to reach out to the sender to verify that the images were embedded correctly in the original file.
