Why did my audio stop working?

I was sitting in my room listening to music through my headphones last night and then suddenly heard the power off sound for the headphones. I went in the room with the computer... nothing had changed, and the music was still playing. No sound. Headphone work on everything else, my PC has no sound. All the audio devices are set up properly still, all the ports work, my USB headset works perfectly fine, and no one was even touching the computer when this started.

I've gone through all of your troubleshooting steps, and I still have no sound. No matter what. No sound in headphones, no sound through speakers, no sound through TV's or any device... at all. 100% of my sound settings are the same as yesterday, and the same as every day before that, still currently. Not a single troubleshooting step had anything to do with whatever you have allowed to happen here.

God bless, you guys are disappointingly bad at this.

There are several potential reasons why your audio may have stopped working on your PC, even if all settings appear to be correct. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can consider:

    1. Check Audio Endpoints: Ensure that all audio devices are connected and capable of streaming. You can verify this by opening the sound control panel (type mmsys.cpl in the command prompt) and checking both the playback and recording tabs for connected devices.
    2. USB Device Conflicts: If you are using a USB audio device, ensure that it is not sharing a USB hub with other multimedia devices, as this can cause audio issues. Try plugging your headset into a different USB port or disconnecting other USB devices.
    3. Power Management Issues: If you are using a Windows Mixed Reality headset or similar device, ensure that the USB hub can provide enough power. You may need to try using a dedicated, external powered USB hub.
    4. Driver Issues: Make sure you have the latest audio drivers installed. Sometimes, outdated drivers can lead to audio problems.
    5. Windows Updates: Check for any pending Windows updates that might address audio issues. Installing the latest updates can sometimes resolve unexpected problems.
    6. Hardware Issues: If none of the above steps work, there may be a hardware issue with your audio device or the PC itself. Testing with another audio device can help isolate the problem.

If you continue to experience issues after trying these steps, it may be beneficial to file a bug report through the Feedback Hub for further assistance.
