Can’t use ‘Correction – Your Microsoft 365 Options’ link to switch to Personal Classic

I’m a Microsoft 365 Personal customer in Australia. On 8 November 2025 I received the email titled “Correction – Your Microsoft 365 Options” offering to move me to Microsoft 365 Personal Classic at a lower price and refund the difference if I switch by 31 December 2025.

When I click the “Switch to Classic” link while signed in to the correct account, I get a message saying I am “not eligible for this offer”. There is no Classic plan listed anywhere on my Services & subscriptions page.

I contacted support via chat and was told to “try again in 24 hours” or to cancel and re-subscribe, but they could not process the refund from their side or give a clear written explanation.

Has anyone successfully switched to Microsoft 365 Personal Classic in this situation, and if so, what actually worked? Did Classic appear without cancelling first, or only after cancelling, and did the refund process automatically?

The method most people indicate that works is to choose to cancel the Microsoft 365 subscription, then on the next window, scroll down and you should see the hidden offer to get the Classic version of Microsoft 365 without Copilot... etc. for the cheaper original price.

After following a circuitous path I got on to a live chat with tech support (not billing). After about 30 mins of haggling they said they’d send a new link in a couple of days. I haven’t received it yet. If I don’t get it or it doesn’t work then I’ll take your suggestion and notify the ACCC.

I received the same “Correction – Your Microsoft 365 Options” email offering the option to switch to Microsoft 365 Personal Classic and get a refund.

However, when I click the “Switch to Classic” link in the email, I get this message: “Sorry, you are not eligible for this offer. You can continue with a full-price purchase or see other plans.”

The email explicitly states I am eligible for the Classic plan and refund, and that the refund applies from my first renewal after 30 Nov 2024. But the Classic plan does not appear anywhere in my account.

I’d hold off on canceling if you can. Even though I’ve months to go on my existing subscription I now get a reminder to subscribe each time I open an MS app. And excels functionality has been repressed. I’m not at all impressed. I’m going to go for monthly to see if I can start from the end of the existing subscription. All up this has made me very certain not to continue with this product. Sadly, not everyone can drop out like me.
