My Windows 11 LG PC has been having audio issues since I first got it. The one that brings me here is regarding audio input. The computer doesn't pick up any audio unless its disconnected from any external microphones. I have had this problem before and with IT support got it fixed somehow, most likely connected to drivers, but its only a few weeks later and the issue has returned. Anyone have a surefire way to resolve this kind of issue?

If your Windows 11 LG PC is not receiving audio input from any connected microphone, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Check Device Manager: Open Device Manager and ensure that your microphone is recognized. If it appears with a warning icon, you may need to update or reinstall the driver.
      • To uninstall the device, right-click on the microphone, select Uninstall Device, and then restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
    2. Try Different USB Ports: If you are using a USB microphone, try connecting it to a different USB port. Sometimes, the issue may be related to a specific port.
    3. Install Device-Specific Drivers: If your microphone came with a specific driver, make sure to install it before connecting the microphone. This can help avoid issues with the default USB audio driver.
    4. Run Windows Troubleshooter: Go to Settings > System > Sound and scroll down to find the Troubleshoot button under the Input section. This can help identify and fix common issues.
    5. Check Privacy Settings: Ensure that your microphone access is enabled. Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and make sure that access is allowed for apps that need it.
    6. Update Windows: Make sure your Windows is up to date, as updates can include important fixes for audio issues. Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be beneficial to consult with your IT support again, as they may have specific solutions tailored to your device's configuration.

Hello Sadie Lenssen, thanks for posting this in our community.

Start by checking your sound settings. Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and open Sound settings. Under Input, make sure the correct microphone is selected, especially if you have an external mic connected. You can also test the microphone using the “Test your microphone” option.

Next, verify your privacy settings. Go to Settings, then Privacy & security, and select Microphone. Ensure that Microphone access and the option to let apps access your microphone are both turned on.

If the issue persists, update or reinstall your audio drivers. Press Win + X to open Device Manager, expand Audio inputs and outputs, and right-click your microphone device. Choose Update driver and select Search automatically. If updating doesn’t help, uninstall the device and restart your PC so Windows can reinstall the driver automatically.

You can also run the Windows troubleshooter. Go to Settings, then System, select Troubleshoot, and open Other troubleshooters. From there, run the Recording Audio troubleshooter to detect and fix common issues.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli
