In my document, Word has placed blocks of text into anchored frames. Previous versions did not have this. How do I remove them?

If the box around text is indeed a "frame" in Word-speak, right-clicking in that text will show "Format Frame" at the bottom of the right-click menu. Clicking that command opens the Frame dialog, with a "Remove Frame" button at the bottom:

    Frame

Caution: If the frame has "Around" text wrapping, removing the frame will move the text to the location of the anchor.

If the frame is part of the definition of the style applied to the text, you can remove all of the frames in the document that have that style by modifying the style, clicking Format > Frame in the Modify dialog, and clicking Remove Frame as above. As soon as you close the Modify dialog, all the frames will disappear.

What you describe may happen when a scanned document is converted into a readable format, for example. In most cases, fixing it will be a time-consuming, manual task.

It may be that what you're seeing is text boundaries. At File | Options | Advanced: Show document content, make sure that "Show text boundaries" is not checked.

To remove blocks of text that are placed into anchored frames in Word, you can follow these steps:

    1. Select the Frame: Click on the frame that contains the text you want to remove. You may need to click on the border of the frame to select it.
    2. Delete the Frame: Once the frame is selected, you can press the Delete key on your keyboard to remove it. This will also remove the text within the frame.
    3. Adjust Layout Options: If you want to prevent Word from placing text into frames in the future, check your layout options. You can do this by going to the Layout tab and adjusting the wrapping style to In line with text if necessary.

If the anchored frames are a result of a specific formatting style or template, you may also want to review those settings to avoid future occurrences.
