i use MAIL on my iphone to get and read emails from my gmail account. recently i had an email that i was able to see on my iphone but when i looked on my PC using outlook it did not appear. i logged on to my gmail account directly on the PC i searched for the sender and up popped the email tied to the original email i had sent. the incoming email said it was in my inbox, but when i looked at the inbox the email was nowhere to be found. i followed these GOOGLEd directions

  1. Open Gmail in your web browser.
  2. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner and select "See all settings".
  3. Make sure you are in the "General" tab.
  4. Scroll down until you find the "Conversation view" section.
  5. Select the "Conversation view off" option.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save changes".  the looked in my inbox in the gmail account, and low and behold the missing email was there. i went to outlook and the email is still not there. i am hopeful that is solely because the email is over 8 hours old and somehow not picked up by outlook. has anyone had the same problem of missing emails in outlook and gmail that showed up in MAIL on their iphone, does anyone know how this works or doesn't

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with emails not appearing in Outlook after being received in your Gmail account. This can happen due to several reasons, including synchronization issues between Gmail and Outlook, or settings related to how emails are processed.

In your case, since you mentioned that the email appeared in Gmail's web interface but not in Outlook, it could be related to how Outlook handles cached emails. Sometimes, emails may not show up in Cached mode due to them being stuck in the incoming item processing pipeline, which is a feature in Outlook that processes messages before they appear in your Inbox.

To troubleshoot this issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Start Outlook with the /cleanips switch: This can help clear any issues with the incoming item processing pipeline. To do this, exit Outlook, then run the command Outlook.exe /cleanips from the Run dialog.
    2. Clear offline items in your Inbox: Right-click on your Inbox folder in Outlook, select Properties, then go to the General tab and click on Clear Offline Items. After that, press Shift+F9 to force a resynchronization of your Inbox.

If the email is older than 8 hours, it may also be that Outlook has not yet synchronized that email due to settings or network issues. Ensure that your Outlook is set to sync all emails and not just those from a specific time frame.

Additionally, turning off conversation view in Gmail, as you did, can sometimes help in making sure that emails are displayed correctly, but it primarily affects how emails are grouped in Gmail rather than how they sync with Outlook.

If the problem persists, you may want to check your Outlook settings or consider removing and re-adding your Gmail account in Outlook to refresh the connection.

Hi there! I'm Ben a fellow member here in the community and hope you are well.

With regards to this issue, can you confirm if the Outlook you are using on your PC is the Outlook application or is it the Outlook webmail?

Assuming that this is the app you are using, have you tried sending a test email to yourself to see if it will sync through the Outlook app on your PC? In case you are seeing "Focused" and "Other" on your Outlook inbox, you can try to disable it as well by going to View → Show Focused Inbox to disable it then check if the email will show up.

Also, if you turn off the conversation view in Gmail. This forces each email to appear as its own message, so Outlook will now see all incoming messages correctly.

Another thing I can think of is the way you have setup your Gmail account in the Outlook app. You can try to remove your account as well and add it back or check the Gmail settings first following:

    • Go to: Settings → Labels (This is on Gmail webmail)
    • Make sure: Inbox is set to Show in IMAP
    • Any custom labels linked to emails are also set to Show in IMAP
    • Then go to Settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP
    • Verify: IMAP is enabled
    • Auto-expunge off

I hope this helps somehow! Feel free to let the community know if you have questions and me and other members will try our best to assist.
