The error message "the name cannot be matched to a name in the address book" typically occurs when the user account is not associated with a mailbox or is hidden from the Global Address List. Additionally, it may happen if there are issues with Active Directory permissions or the Exchange Recipient Update Service. To resolve this issue, ensure that the user account is correctly configured and associated with a mailbox.

If you continue to experience problems, you may want to check the configuration of the user’s mailbox or consult your IT administrator for further assistance.

Hi Peter DeVries, I understand how frustrating this error can be especially when you’re just trying to set up a new Outlook profile and it throws a message that doesn’t make sense.

To resolve the error make sure the mailbox is visible in the Global Address List and update the GAL if needed test Autodiscover to confirm correct endpoints add the registry key ExcludeExplicitO365Endpoint = 1 to prevent Office 365 conflicts clear cached credentials in Credential Manager verify Active Directory attributes like showInAddressBook and SMTP address and if all else fails delete existing Outlook profiles and recreate them after GAL sync completes.

When you try to create the new profile does the mailbox appear in the Global Address List and does Autodiscover return the correct server settings or is it failing to find the mailbox entirely?

    Best regards
