To resolve the issue of your Windows 11 installation being on the Pro edition while you only have a product key for Windows 11 Home, you will need to downgrade your edition. Here are the steps you can follow:

    1. Change the Edition: You can change the edition of Windows to one that matches your product key. This can be done through the Settings app:
      • Go to Settings > System > About.
      • Under Windows specifications, look for the Change product key or upgrade your edition of Windows option.
      • Enter your Windows 11 Home product key.
    2. Activation: After entering the product key, Windows should automatically downgrade to the Home edition and activate using the key you provided.
    3. Clean Install (if necessary): If the downgrade path is not supported or fails, you may need to perform a clean installation of Windows 11 Home. Make sure to back up your data before proceeding with a clean install.
    4. Use Installation Media: You can create installation media using the Windows Media Creation Tool to install Windows 11 Home from scratch.

By following these steps, you should be able to fix the activation issue and ensure your Windows version matches your product key.

Hi ReneChestnut-5372, I know this has been maddening you didn’t ask for Windows to jump to Pro and now you’re stuck trying to activate with a Home key while going in circles.

If Windows upgraded to Pro but you only have a Home key you can force it back to Home by editing the registry to change the edition then run a repair install and activate with your key. Alternatively use a generic Home key to trigger the downgrade then enter your real key. If nothing works back up your files and do a clean Home install.

Did your laptop originally ship with Windows 11 Home and is your Home license linked to your Microsoft account or is it a standalone product key?

    Best regards
