Dear Margret Bechert
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Community. I understand you are having a problem with the New Outlook app not opening, even though you can access Outlook on the web. I am happy to assist you. Please try the following steps :
- End Outlook Processes
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), locate any Outlook.exe or related Office processes, select them, and click End Task.
- Repair or Reset New Outlook App
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps, find Outlook (New), select Advanced Options, then choose Repair. If that fails, choose Reset.
- Update Windows and Office
- Install all pending Windows updates. Open any Office app, go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
- Reinstall or Repair WebView2 Runtime
- New Outlook depends on WebView2. Download the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Evergreen Standalone Installer from Microsoft and run it as administrator.
- See : Introduction to Microsoft Edge WebView2 - Microsoft Edge Developer documentation | Microsoft Learn
- Sign Out and Sign Back In
- If the app partially loads, go to Settings > Accounts, sign out, then sign back in with your Microsoft account.
- Disable Compatibility Mode
- Right-click the Outlook shortcut > Properties > Compatibility tab, ensure Run this program in compatibility mode is unchecked.
- Create a New Outlook Profile
- Open Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles, click Add, create a new profile, and set it as default.
