I cannot log on to my laptop because the Microsoft account it is bound to keeps on saying “you’ve tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password.” But I’m 100% certain that I have never entered a wrong password. I have been checking visually, and this message showed up from the first time I tried to sign in today. I have successfully changed the password twice just now, but both times is still wouldn’t let me log in once I set up the new password for the same reason.

I've got exactly the same problem, but to log in to Hotmail. Only way to log in is to use my Yahoo email account to get a six digit code. Also changed my password two times to no avail. It's happening in my home computer and in my office computer, using Firefox and Chrome. Now I wonder -- if Microsoft makes me use Yahoo mail all the time, why should I bother with Hotmail to begin with?

It sounds like you are encountering a sign-in issue related to your Microsoft account, where the system is locking you out due to multiple failed attempts. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

    1. Wait and Retry: Sometimes, after too many failed attempts, the account may be temporarily locked. Wait for a short period (usually around 15-30 minutes) and then try logging in again.
    2. Check for Caps Lock or Num Lock: Ensure that the Caps Lock or Num Lock keys are not affecting your password entry.
    3. Use the Correct Account: Make sure you are using the correct email address associated with your Microsoft account. If you have multiple accounts, it's easy to confuse them.
    4. Reset Password Again: Since you've already changed your password, ensure that you are entering the new password correctly. If you continue to have issues, consider resetting the password again to ensure it meets the complexity requirements.
    5. Contact Support: If the problem persists, you may need to contact Microsoft support for further assistance, especially if your account appears to be locked due to security reasons.
    6. Check for Account Lockout Policies: If this is a work or school account, check with your administrator to see if there are any policies that might be causing the account to lock.

These steps should help you troubleshoot the sign-in issue you're experiencing with your Microsoft account.

Sorry to hear that ypu have troubles, first, I’d recommend trying to sign in to your Microsoft account from another device and browser at https://account.microsoft.com to confirm the new password works there. If you can sign in on the website but cannot sign in on the laptop, try connecting the device to a different network to test, please.
