Hi,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft community and letting us know what’s going on. Your Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite Keyboard (Model 1011) and the IntelliType 5.0 CD are quite old, which is why the CD won’t work on newer systems like Windows 10 or 11.
The good news is that Windows usually installs a basic driver automatically when you plug in the wireless receiver, so you should still be able to type, even if some advanced features like hotkeys don’t work.
If you want to try running older software, you can check this guide on making older apps compatible with the latest version of Windows:
Make older apps or programs compatible with Windows- https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/make-older-apps-or-programs-compatible-with-the-latest-version-of-windows-783d6dd7-b439-bdb0-0490-54eea0f45938
For full functionality, I recommend downloading the latest Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center from Microsoft- https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=55977
This software takes the place of IntelliType and works perfectly on Windows 10 and 11. After downloading it, you can set things up by removing the old IntelliType CD, installing the right version of Mouse and Keyboard Center for your system (32-bit or 64-bit), and restarting your computer.
Make sure your keyboard has fresh batteries, plug the wireless receiver directly into a USB port instead of a hub, and press the Connect button on both the receiver and the keyboard to pair them.
If the keyboard still doesn’t respond, try running the Windows Troubleshooter under Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Keyboard. You can also update the driver through Device Manager. And if you really want to stick with IntelliType 5.0, you can attempt to run it in compatibility mode by right-clicking the setup file, opening Properties, and selecting Windows XP as the mode.
Let me know if this helps or if you need more clarification, I’m happy to help!
Warm regards,
Edward
