- Is the document saved in OneDrive/SharePoint/Teams, a network drive, or local (C:)?

Step 1: Test in Safe Mode
Right-click the Start button (lower-left corner) in Windows, and click Run. Alternatively, you can press the Windows logo key and the R key on your keyboard. Type winword /safe, and click OK.

Step 2: Disable Add-ins
File > Options > Add-ins > Manage COM Add-ins > Go > Uncheck all > Restart Word.
Step 3: Repair Office
If a Microsoft 365 application such as Word or Excel isn't working correctly, sometimes restarting it will fix the problem. If that doesn't work, you can try repairing it. When you're done, you might need to restart your computer. For reference, please follow: Repair an Office application
Step 4: Update Office
File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
