Is WORD going to be the only option to create newletters after Publisher expires in October?

I am going to be at a loss come October when Publisher expires. I can't find anything as dynamic to create monthly newsletters for the non-profit I belong to. Word is not flexible enough to move text fields, add pictures, rearrange items on the page.

PowerPoint is not flexible either.

Please reconsider sun-setting Publisher.

Is there any other free, tool or application that i easy to use that people have found is a decent replacment?

After Microsoft Publisher is retired in October 2026, users will need to consider alternatives for creating newsletters. While Microsoft Word is an option, you mentioned that it may not be flexible enough for your needs. Unfortunately, the context does not provide specific alternatives or free tools that can replace Publisher effectively.

However, you might explore other design tools such as Canva, which is user-friendly and offers a variety of templates for newsletters. Additionally, Google Docs can be used for collaborative document creation, although it may also have limitations compared to Publisher.

It's worth considering these options and possibly experimenting with them to see which one meets your requirements for creating dynamic newsletters.

    Hello @Elk_Lady

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Community!

Thank you for contacting us and sharing your concerns regarding the upcoming retirement of Microsoft Publisher. We understand that Publisher has been an essential tool for creating your monthly newsletters, and we appreciate the opportunity to provide clarity and guidance.

Based on the official article Microsoft Publisher will no longer be supported after October 2026 - Microsoft Support, Microsoft Publisher will continue to be available and supported until October 2026. After this date, it will no longer be included in Microsoft 365 subscriptions, and updates will cease. Microsoft recommend that you begin planning for migration by exporting existing Publisher files to PDF for archival purposes and Word (.docx) if you require editable text in the future.

At this time, Microsoft has not official announced about developing a direct replacement for Publisher. Instead, the company is focusing on enabling similar functionality through existing applications within Microsoft 365:

    • Microsoft Word: Suitable for multi-page documents and text-heavy layouts. By using text boxes, columns, and templates, you can achieve a structured design.
    • Microsoft PowerPoint: Offers a flexible canvas for placing text and images freely, making it a strong alternative for visually rich newsletters. Custom slide sizes and alignment guides can help replicate the layout experience you are accustomed to.
    • Microsoft Designer: Ideal for creating visually appealing graphics, headers, and inserts that can be incorporated into your newsletters.

For organizations that require advanced desktop publishing capabilities, third-party solutions such as Scribus (open-source) or Affinity Publisher (one-time purchase) are widely recommended alternatives.

Please note: Although we suggest these third-party applications as potential options, kindly review their documentation and verify compatibility with your requirements before following any steps or installing software.

We value your feedback as it helps us improve our products and services. Please share your thoughts and suggestions regarding Publisher’s retirement and your needs for newsletter creation at the Microsoft Feedback Portal

Thank you for your continued support and for being part of the Microsoft community. I understand that this change may bring some difficulties to your daily process. I appreciate your understanding and patience.
