How do I get my money back from Microsoft when I had a $34 charge for 14 day free trial that I did not sign up for I just need the number to call to get this fixed. I also have no idea what the free trial is for.

To request a refund for an unauthorized charge from Microsoft, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Your Subscription: First, verify if you have any active subscriptions that might have resulted in the charge. You can do this by logging into your Microsoft account and checking the subscriptions section.
    2. Request a Refund: If you believe the charge is unauthorized, you can submit a request for a credit. For accidental purchases, if the subscription was canceled within 30 days, you may be eligible for a full refund without needing to create a service request. If it’s beyond that period, you may need to submit a request for a prorated refund.
    3. Contact Support: If you need immediate assistance or if you are unsure about the charge, you can contact Microsoft support directly. Unfortunately, the context does not provide a specific phone number, but you can find support options through the Microsoft support website.
    4. Review Free Trials: If you signed up for a free trial, ensure you understand the terms and conditions associated with it, as charges may occur if you do not cancel before the trial period ends.

For more detailed guidance, please refer to the Microsoft support documentation or contact their customer service for assistance.

    Hi Trav Well

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Q&A Forum!

I can understand it is frustrating to deal with an unexpected charge, but rest assured that I will help you to get the detailed steps to investigate the charge and potentially help you get a refund.

As suggested by the Q&A Assist AI, it gave a good structure but wasn't detailed enough, please allow me to guide you step by step on how to go on with this.

How to Investigate the Unknown Charge

Follow these steps to see what you were charged for:

    1. Go to: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders
    2. Sign in with the Microsoft account that might have been charged.
    3. Scroll through your Order history.
    4. Find the $34 charge.
    5. Click “Investigate” next to the transaction.
      • Microsoft will tell you what the charge is, what product it belongs to, and if anyone else in your family group used your payment method. If the charge still doesn’t look familiar after that, move on to requesting a refund.

    Steps to Request a Refund

Microsoft requires you to cancel the subscription first before they can evaluate refund eligibility.

    1. Visit: https://account.microsoft.com/services
    2. Sign in with the account connected to the charge.
    3. Find the subscription that caused the charge.
    4. Click Manage.
    5. Click Cancel (or “Upgrade or Cancel” depending on what you see).
    6. Follow the cancellation prompts.
    7. After canceling, you will be shown whether you’re eligible for a refund and can continue the refund request from there.

If the online steps don’t resolve it, you can try contacting Microsoft Support directly.

    1. Go to: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus
    2. Type “Billing refund” in the box.
    3. Select Billing as the category.
    4. Choose Chat with a support agent

Hope you'll get this sorted out. Have a great day!
