Hello We purchased a Windows Server 2019 Standard license in 2020.

However, the IT staff (who have since left) did not retain the license key or the management email.

Therefore, we want to recover this license key. Since the server has been reinstalled, we are unable to retrieve the license key.

We have all the necessary documentation to prove that we purchased this Windows Server 2019 Standard license key.

    Hi VPSA

Unfortunately, once a Windows Server has been reinstalled, the product key cannot be retrieved directly from the system. Since you have documentation proving your purchase, the next step is to contact Microsoft Support for Business or your reseller/OEM partner who issued the license. They can validate your proof of purchase and reissue the product key or provide guidance on recovering your entitlement. If the license was purchased through Volume Licensing, you can also log in to the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) to download the key.

I recommend opening a support case via support.microsoft.com and attaching your purchase documentation so the team can assist you promptly.

I hope this helps 🙂. If you find this answer useful, please click “Accept Answer” so others can benefit from the guidance as well.

    Harry.

To recover your Windows Server 2019 Standard license key, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Documentation: Since you mentioned having documentation proving your purchase, look for any product keys or license information in those documents.
    2. Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC): If your organization used a volume licensing agreement to purchase the server, you can log in to the Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) to retrieve your product keys.
    3. Contact Microsoft Support: If you cannot find the key through documentation or VLSC, consider contacting Microsoft Support. They may be able to assist you in recovering your license key by verifying your purchase details.
    4. Admin Center: If you have access to the Microsoft 365 admin center, you can check the Billing > Your products section for any associated product keys.
    5. Third-Party Tools: If the server is still operational and you can access it, there are third-party tools available that can help recover the license key from the installed software. However, this may not be applicable since you mentioned the server has been reinstalled.

Make sure to keep a record of the license key once you recover it to avoid similar issues in the future.
