Hello Mason C,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!
I understand that you are having issue with Microsoft Family Safety. I truly understand how you feel. Let me assist you go through this situation.
This is my suggestion for you to make further in this case:
Step 1: Check how Microsoft sees your account
- Go to https://family.microsoft.com/
- Sign in with the problem Microsoft account
- Look at your profile card
- If it says Child → you cannot leave the family yourself
- If it says Adult → you can leave the family
This determines which path you must follow. Do not skip this step.
Step 2: Leave the family (ONLY if shown as Adult)
- On https://family.microsoft.com/, select your name
- Click Leave family group
- Sign out of Windows
- Restart the device
- Sign back in and test app installs / Microsoft Store
If apps now install → problem solved. If still blocked → continue to Step 4
Step 3: If shown as Child (you cannot leave yourself)
This means Microsoft still treats the account as a minor, even if you are not.
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/
- Open Your info
- Verify Date of birth
- If incorrect → correct it
- If correct → age status is locked
- You must contact Microsoft Support to: Detach your account from the family OR convert it to adult after age verification
The organizer must act, or Microsoft Support must override it.
Step 4: Temporary workaround (restore app installs immediately)
While waiting for Microsoft Support:
- Open Settings → Accounts → Family & other users
- Select Add account
- Choose I don't have this person's sign‑in info
- Choose Add a user without a Microsoft account
- After creation, select the account → Change account type → Administrator
- Sign into this local admin account
- Install apps and updates from there
This does not fix Family Safety but removes blocking so you can use your PC.
Step 5: Contact Microsoft Support (exact request)
Go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus
Choose:
- Account & billing
- Microsoft account
- Family Safety
Be ready to provide:
- Your Microsoft account email
- Screenshot from https://family.microsoft.com/ showing Child status
- Proof of age if requested
I hope this helps in your situation. Feel free to let me know if you have another update.
Best Regards,
