Error when trying to add shared folder via New Outlook

Hi,

We are getting the following error when trying to gain access to a user's mailbox:

'Please contact owner of the account or try again after a while'

I have checked Exchange and the user trying to access has full permissions in place and can even access the inbox via classic outlook. You're probably thinking why don't you just use classic outlook, the issue with this is that it does not seem to want to load/update with most recent emails on the classic version of outlook.

Hope you can help.

The error message you are encountering when trying to add a shared folder in New Outlook may be related to permission issues or connectivity problems. Since you mentioned that the user has full permissions and can access the inbox via classic Outlook, it suggests that the permissions are correctly set. However, there are a few things you can check:

    1. Permissions Verification: Double-check that the user has the correct permissions set for the shared mailbox in both the Exchange admin center and the Outlook settings.
    2. Hybrid Environment Issues: If you are in a hybrid environment, there could be complications with accessing shared mailboxes. Ensure that the mailbox permissions are correctly configured for hybrid scenarios, as issues can arise when trying to access mailboxes across different environments.
    3. Outlook Profile: Sometimes, issues can stem from the Outlook profile itself. Consider creating a new Outlook profile for the user to see if that resolves the issue.
    4. Network Connectivity: Ensure that there are no network issues affecting the connection to the mailbox. Sometimes, temporary connectivity issues can cause errors when accessing shared folders.
    5. Workaround: As a temporary solution, you might want to use the classic Outlook for accessing the mailbox until the issue with New Outlook is resolved.

If the problem persists, you may want to reach out to Microsoft support for further assistance.

    Hi @Reggie Mason

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand you’re experiencing an error when trying to add a shared folder in the new Outlook. To assist you more effectively, could you please confirm a few details:

Has the other user followed the correct sharing process?

    1. In Outlook, click the three dots next to their name.
      User's image
    2. Select Sharing and Permissions.  User's image
    3. Add the account they want to share with.  User's image

After that, try adding the shared folder by typing in the user’s account. If successful, you should see a confirmation notification.

Could you let me know if any of these steps differ from what the other user did? If so, please share your process. It would be very helpful to understand.

Thank you again for your time and patience. While this initial response may not resolve the issue immediately, gathering these details will help me assist you more effectively. I appreciate your cooperation and look forward to your response.
