Why has the appearance of my outlook email changed? Every search for a solution is just a frustrating brick wall. There should be concise simple steps to restoring it to default appearance. Updates or upgrades shouldn't change the appearance. Even trying to log in to this and ask a question required me to check a box that allows people to send me a bunch of crap emails. Can't stuff just work? Now I have to check a bunch of tags.... what is all this crap?

    Hi Adam Ellis

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum! Have a good day and I hope you're doing well!

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration you’re experiencing. I completely understand that an unexpected interface change can be upsetting and disruptive to your workflow, especially when it happens without warning. Please know that I’m here to support you and help resolve this as quickly as possible.

Could you please share some screenshots of your Outlook interface after the change occurred? You’re welcome to blur or hide any sensitive information before sending them. Alternatively, you may send the screenshots via the private messages, which I sent to you earlier, if you prefer to better protect your personal information.

Based on my testing in a virtual environment, Outlook continues to retain its default interface. One possible explanation is that your device may currently be displaying New Outlook. Could you please check the following for me?

    1. In the top‑right corner of the Outlook window, do you see a “New Outlook” toggle that is turned on?

    2. If so, please try turning it off to revert back to the Classic Outlook interface. Outlook may prompt you to restart the application and confirm the switch back.

I truly hope the steps above can help clarify what may be happening. I understand how unexpected changes like this can be confusing and impact your daily work, so I really appreciate your patience. Once I receive your sceenshots, I’ll be able to look into this more closely and continue assisting you toward a complete resolution.

If I’ve misunderstood anything or missed any detail, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I’ll be happy to adjust and assist further.  Thank you very much, and I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

The appearance of your Outlook email may have changed due to updates or changes in settings that can occur after updates. If you are looking to restore the default appearance, here are some steps you can take:

    1. Reset View Settings: Go to the View tab in Outlook, and select Reset View. This will restore the view settings to default.
    2. Check Message Preview Settings: Ensure that your Message Preview settings are configured to your preference. You can find this under the View tab, then select Message Preview and choose your desired option (1 Line, 2 Lines, or 3 Lines).
    3. Adjust Reading Pane: If the Reading Pane is affecting how your emails look, you can toggle it on or off by going to the View tab and selecting Reading Pane.
    4. Check for Add-ins: Sometimes, third-party add-ins can alter the appearance. You can disable them by going to File > Options > Add-ins and managing them there.
    5. Revert to Classic View: If you prefer the classic view, you can adjust your settings in the File > Options > Mail section to change how messages are displayed.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be worth checking if any recent updates have introduced changes to the interface or functionality of Outlook.
