Our Microsoft Entra ID tenant reports a directory object quota total of only 500, which blocks creation of users, groups, and applications.
When running:
GET https://graph.microsoft.com/beta/organization?$select=directorySizeQuota
The result is:
json
{
"directorySizeQuota": {
"used": 89,
"total": 500
}
}
Once the limit is reached, object creation fails with:
AADSTS90093: The directory object quota limit for the Tenant has been exceeded
According to Microsoft documentation, supported limits are:
A 500-object quota is not documented as a supported or by-design limit:
https://learn.microsoft.com/entra/identity/users/directory-service-limits-restrictions
Deleting objects only reduces used but does not change total. Assigning licenses does not affect the quota.
Several Microsoft Q&A threads report the same behavior, suggesting a tenant provisioning issue that requires Microsoft backend correction:
Question:
Has anyone resolved a tenant where directorySizeQuota.total is stuck at 500, and if so, was Microsoft Support required to fix it?

Hello Matthew Duda,
The engineering team has raised the quota on your tenant since your organization surpassed the default Microsoft Entra service limit.
You can check and confirm if the directory object quota limit has been increased.
