Hello @DocMoPho,
Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A forum!
Wishing you a Happy New Year 2026!
For your situation, could you reconfirm this point:
Are you asking about how to make the Table of Contents in Word behave like a hyperlink that you can open with a single left-click to jump to the heading in the document, instead of the default behavior that requires Ctrl + click?
If I understand correctly, by default, Word uses Ctrl + click to prevent accidental navigation while editing. However, if you prefer, you can disable this requirement so that a simple left-click will take you directly to the heading. Here are detail steps:
- You can open a Word document that has an automatic Table of Contents.
- Then go to File => Options => Advanced.
- Under Editing options, you find and uncheck the setting Use CTRL + Click to follow hyperlink and click OK
- After that, you can return to your Table of Contents and try left-clicking on an entry.
I tested this in my own tenant, and it works as expected after disabling that option.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
