Hello Dwight,
Thanks for reaching out I understand how frustrating it can be to set up your email on a new laptop only to find that something as familiar as adding a POP account suddenly becomes more difficult than expected. It’s completely reasonable to feel confused especially since the same Microsoft 365 subscription works smoothly with Classic Outlook on your ASUS laptop. Experiencing errors on a newer device can definitely feel like things are moving in the wrong direction.
The new Outlook for Windows does support POP accounts, but it handles them differently compared to Classic Outlook. The setup process relies more on your email server’s ability to support modern authentication or secure ports which older mail servers don’t always provide. When automatic setup continues to fail a reliable workaround is to switch to Classic Outlook on your new laptop. You can do this directly from the new Outlook interface by selecting the option to switch to Classic Outlook. Once it opens you can add your POP account using the same server settings that still work on your ASUS laptop. This approach helps you bypass the more restrictive configuration requirements in the new Outlook and lets you work with the older more flexible setup path that is often necessary for legacy servers. You can continue using Classic Outlook on your Lenovo device if your mail server doesn’t meet the modern standards required by the new Outlook allowing you to access your email without further interruptions while still using your Microsoft 365 subscription.
If you eventually want to move to the new Outlook it may help to check with your email provider to see if your account can be upgraded from POP to IMAP or another modern protocol. Many providers offer this option and it eliminates the compatibility issues that POP accounts commonly run into with the new Outlook environment.
I hope this answer is helpful if you have further questions feel free to reply back
