We have tried on multiple occasions to unlock the Bit Recovery problem and it will not unlock. I have tried calling you and get cut off and told to go to the help section which does no good.

If the BitLocker recovery key does not unlock your computer, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Verify the Recovery Key: Ensure that you are entering the correct recovery key. The recovery key is a 48-digit number, and it's important to enter it accurately.
    2. Check for Multiple Keys: If you have multiple recovery keys saved, make sure you are using the correct one associated with your device. You can check your Microsoft account or any other storage location where the key might be saved.
    3. Use the Command Prompt: If you have access to the recovery options, you can try unlocking the drive using the Command Prompt. Boot into recovery mode and use the following command:
         manage-bde -unlock C: -recoverypassword <YourRecoveryKey>

Replace <YourRecoveryKey> with your actual recovery key and ensure that C: is the correct drive letter.
    4. BitLocker Repair Tool: If the recovery key still does not work, you may need to use the BitLocker Repair Tool to regain access to your drive. This tool can help recover data from a damaged BitLocker-encrypted drive.
    5. Contact Support: If none of the above methods work, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance. They may have additional troubleshooting steps or solutions for your specific situation.

It's important to keep your recovery key in a safe place and to ensure that you have a backup method for accessing your data in case of issues like this in the future.

    Hi Faith,

The first step is to verify that the correct key is being entered. Could you please confirm that the Recovery key you are entering matches the Key ID displayed on the screen? The key ID must match.

    Please keep me updated.

The Bitlocker recovery key that will unlock your computer is the recovery key that was generated by the most recent installation of Windows on that computer. This is a crucial detail to have in mind. A copy of that recovery key was stored in the Microsoft account that was used for that installation.

Bitlocker recovery keys from earlier installations of Windows will not unlock the computer, and other Microsoft accounts will not hold a copy of the correct recovery key. If someone else other than yourself installed Windows on that computer most recently, you will not know the recovery key - unless that person shared it with you. Also, if whomever most recently installed Windows did so without using a Microsoft account, which is physically possible although not supported, there will be no record of the recovery key unless whomever installed Windows shared it with you.

I obviously don't know whether your computer previously belonged to a school or to an employer. But if that was the case, only the school or the employer can unlock the PC.

Bitlocker was created for situations where a computer is lost or stolen. When someone has physical possession, it's possible to tamper with a computer in ways that a hacker cannot. Bitlocker protects a computer from tampering, so it's got real 'teeth' that even Microsoft can't defeat. As a result, without the correct recovery key, nothing and no one can unlock the computer, I'm sorry to say.
