Why can't I select hierachical namespace in my storage account?

Renan Nunes Steinck 1 Reputation point

I've been trying to test the Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 but for some reason, the option to activate the hierachical namespace is not disabled/unactivated.

My environment:

  • Subscription: Visual Studio Enterprise Subscription – MPN;
  • Location: Brazil;

I've tried to change to different regions, and that made me have a lot of questions.

  • There is any specific config that I need to activate to make this option avaliable?
  • There is a regional lock to this feature?
  • There is any workaround if this is locked by region?

I simply can't find any information about that in the documentation!

If anyone can help me creating a storage account with hierachical namespace it would be great!

Thanks in advance.

    Hi @Renan Nunes Steinck ,

    the option is greyed out during creation wizard of the storage account?

    I just tested with my Visual Studio Ultimate MSDN Subscription to create a storage account in Brazil and the option Enable hierarchical namespace is available to activate.

    This is supported in Brazil region. If this is a new storage account make sure you are choosing the right storage account type. Azure Data Lake Storage capabilities are supported in Standard general-purpose v2 or Premium block blob storage accounts. See here for a list of supported features. For a walkthrough of setting this up you can see this page.

    Hope this helps! Let us know if you are still facing issues or have further questions.
