Why I cannot cancel my subscription?

For the past week, I am attempting to cancel my Microsoft 365 Business Standard edition. On October, I got a free trial for my Microsoft 365 Business Standard because of my work as a cybersecurity student for a project. In November, I extend the free trial because of the deadline and how complex my project is. In Dcecember, I was selfish to read emails from microsoft that the deadline has passed and I have made several attempts to cancel this admin account. First, I couldn't find the cancel, I cancelled it but however it gets furstated that I would have to pay hundreds of dollars to pay for more services and I don't want that. Because it wastes a lot of money. I read that it is $13.13 per month for a yearly subscription but I would have to pay for month. Why would I cancel, despite Microsoft remind me to pay more, even so I ignore it and I don't pay for it. Reminder, I only use this as a school project.

There could be several reasons why you are unable to cancel your Microsoft 365 Business Standard subscription. Here are some possibilities:

    1. Billing Account Type: The steps to cancel your subscription can depend on the type of billing account you have (MCA or MOSA). Ensure you know which type you have and follow the appropriate cancellation steps for that account type.
    2. Grace Period: If you are trying to cancel after the grace period has passed, you may only have the option to turn off recurring billing instead of canceling the subscription outright. This means you would not be charged for the next billing cycle, but you would still retain access until the end of the current subscription term.
    3. Multiple Subscriptions: If you have multiple subscriptions for the same product, canceling one does not affect the others. Make sure you are canceling the correct subscription.
    4. Admin Permissions: You need to be a Billing account owner or contributor to cancel the subscription. Ensure you have the necessary permissions to perform this action.
    5. Domain Removal: If you added a custom domain to your subscription, you must remove that domain before you can cancel the subscription.

If you are still facing issues, consider contacting Microsoft support for assistance in canceling your subscription.

    Hello @Ralph Pacatang

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how frustrating this has been, especially since you only needed Microsoft 365 Business Standard for a school project.

To ensure your subscription and billing concerns are handled correctly, please open a support ticket directly from the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. The billing support team has the tools necessary to review your account, verify eligibility, and assist you with cancelling the subscription

To create a new support ticket via Admin Center, kindly following these steps:

    1. Sign in with Microsoft Admin Center
    2. Select “Help & Support” at the bottom right of your screen
    3. Fill in your issue and press “Contact Support”
    4. Submit the ticket so a Microsoft billing agent can review and help you directly.

Note: Microsoft uses title‑based routing to automatically direct tickets to the appropriate specialists, make sure to include specific keywords in the title of your support ticket such as “billing” or “subscription”.

If your subscription was purchased through a partner or reseller, and you are unable to open a service request directly, please contact your reseller support provider and ask them to raise the service request on your behalf.

Note: Please understand that as a forum moderator, my primary goal is to provide helpful guidance and support through general troubleshooting steps. While I don’t have access to internal systems or test devices required to resolve backend/account issues, I truly appreciate your understanding of these limitations. I genuinely hope the information helps you in the right direction, and we are always here to assist as much as I can within our scope.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If anything is unclear, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Thank you for choosing Microsoft, and I am looking forward to your response.
