I have a deduction every year for Word from Microsoft for the family plan.

I cannot open Word it wants me to get Microsoft Office

I am retired and do not need that and cannot afford.

At the top right of Word, log out of Office.

Restart (Not shut down) your PC, then log back into Office, is your Office licence or subscription then recognized correctly?

If not, log into your Microsoft account on this link, do you see an Office licence listed there, or a current subscription to Microsoft 365 with a correct expiry date listed?

In order to use Word on the desktop, you must have either a copy of Office (the current version is Office 2024, which is a perpetual version for which you pay only once) or a monthly or annual subscription to Microsoft 365 (Family or Personal). If you don't want to pay for either of these, you can use the free version of Word for the Web/Word Online.

But you say you "have a deduction every year for Word from Microsoft for the family plan." This sounds like you have an annual subscription to Microsoft 365 Family that is paid automatically. If that is the case, then the suggestions DaveM121 has made should work for you.

I do not want to pay for Microsoft Office or 365
