Dear @a b,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I’m happy to assist you.
When you share content from OneDrive for Business with someone using OneDrive Personal (Home) or a non-Microsoft account, the recipient is treated as an email-authenticated guest user. These guest users have limited permissions by design. They can view, download, and create files, but they cannot rename or delete existing items because those actions require higher-level permissions that are not granted to email-authenticated guests.
Here are some workarounds you can consider:
Use a SharePoint document library:
To create one, please follow the instructions in this link: Create a document library in SharePoint - Microsoft Support.
Add the bookkeeper’s account as a guest user in your tenant and grant edit permissions:
Visit here for more details: Managing External Guests in SharePoint vs Teams | Microsoft Learn
Create a user account within your tenant and assign it to the bookkeeper for full access and permissions:
For more details, visit this link: Add users and assign licenses in Microsoft 365 - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn.
I agree that having an option for users with OneDrive Personal subscriptions to obtain full edit permissions when a folder is shared from OneDrive for Business would be highly valuable. This capability would better meet user needs and enhance collaboration by allowing more flexibility for various scenarios.
So I encourage you to submit feedback directly to Microsoft via One Drive (Help > Give feedback), or through Feedback Hub by
Go to: Microsoft 365 Feedback Hub > Send Feedback > Describe your proposal in detail.
Sharing your experience through this channel is the most impactful way to advocate for a change that would benefit you and other users.
