Hello, if I mark option Enable all macros , close the file and try to reopen it, it fails and also close other excel files too.

    Hi,

Thank you for sharing your question. I understand how frustrating it can be when a file that worked just days ago suddenly stops running macros. Let’s walk through exactly how to resolve this issue based on current guidance from Microsoft.

Here’s how you can resolve the issue

First, check your macro security settings by going to File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Macro Settings. Choose “Disable all macros with notification” or “Enable all macros” to allow macros to run—then close and reopen the workbook and click Enable Content when the security warning bar appears.

Next, if the workbook was downloaded or opened from the web or email, Windows may have flagged it. Right‑click the file in File Explorer, open Properties, and click Unblock if visible.

If the file is on a network drive or in an untrusted folder, consider moving it to a trusted location. Go to File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Trusted Locations, then add the folder containing the workbook.

There’s also a chance the file became corrupted. Try using Open and Repair: in Excel, click File → Open, select the file, click the arrow next to Open, then choose Open and Repair. If macros are still unavailable, revert to a recent backup.

If the workbook previously worked flawlessly but recently stopped, it’s possible an update reset settings or your organization implemented a group policy blocking macros. In that case, double-check your Trust Center settings again, especially the option “Trust access to the VBA project object model”, or reach out to your IT admin to confirm if a policy has changed.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Noel

If you are encountering the issue where macros are not available in your Excel workbook, it could be due to the macros being disabled. Here are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue:

    1. Enable Macros: You may have opened the document with macros disabled. You can enable macros by following the instructions in the article on how to enable or disable macros in Office files.
    2. Check Macro Settings: Ensure that your macro settings are configured to allow macros to run. You can find these settings in Excel under File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Macro Settings.
    3. File Location: If the file is from the internet or a network location, it may be blocked. You can unblock the file by selecting the Unblock checkbox on the General tab of the Properties dialog for the file or using the PowerShell cmdlet Unblock-File.
    4. Corrupted File: If the file is corrupted or in a format that Visual Basic can't interpret, you may not be able to load the macros. In this case, try to recover the file or use a backup if available.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider checking for any updates or reinstalling the Office application as a last resort.
